Why are stones used in construction?
Stone is used for the construction because is one of the oldest materials in the world, is used of its rigidity and durability that facilitates the creation of structures, and also offer a natural look.

Stone is a material with physical properties that determinates some interesting advantages and disadvantages at the moment of use in construction. There are two types of stonework, rubble (pieces of stone with mortar) and ashlar mansorry (cut blocks). In disadvantages, it’s a heavy material, hard to cut and transport but it doesn’t need very much use of mortar, it has a long durability, natural look and its adaptable for treatment in sculpture.

The best way to place stones is like bricks, a line of blocks and on top, another line but in a way that the separation of the blocks is in the middle of the block in the line below. Stone has a long durability, and that is the reason because it was very used in columns and roofing; also stone offer a natural look.
With respect to the disadvantages, it’s a heavy material, hard to cut and transport. Stone is expensive and made that people tried to find new structural solutions, now it is replaced by cheaper manufactured materials. However , stone has the advantage of adaptability, and now it can be used in sculptural and artistic treatment.
